Extra! Extra! Home Delivery

Logistical Tip - A lifestyle favorite: Consider getting a home delivered newspaper

The news cycle is now literally at our fingertips, 24 hours a day. It is sensational. It is global. And it is dominated by the big networks & papers & outlets.

Given the current situation, I love my home-delivered, local newspaper more than ever. I can skim it in about 10 minutes; I always know someone or some business that is being mentioned. I am somewhat knowledgeable about the latest legislative bills being debated or the governor’s vetos. I know when Main Street events are happening. When the seasonal bike or ski swaps are. When a neighbor's home tragically burned & when a friend got a promotion.

If we don’t support our local papers, then all articles will just come from the Associated Press or the WSJ or the NYT. And they aren’t reporting what is going on in our own hometowns. Reading our local paper daily makes me feel so much more connected to my community.

When my kids come down for breakfast, I usually have the newspaper separated into sections (which for us is just 2 sections, each of about 8 pages), spread onto the table. Then I silently observe to see if anything grabs their attention. My son religiously reads the comics. My daughter is beginning to read, and ask, about headlines, and sometimes she goes deeper into the article. The paper usually remains on the table throughout the day, and we often, as a family, tackle the very easy & manageable crossword puzzle in the evening. Our paper also gets toted to many a practice or game.

While our newspaper connects us to our community, it also helps us connect as a family. And it helps us DISconnect from technology. News on my phone never ends. But the newspaper, thankfully, does. Read & move on.

If you feel compelled to connect . . .
